Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to be Lutheran to attend St. Johns Lutheran School?

No.  The goal of our school is to provide a strong academic program with Christ at the center of all our teachings.  We welcome any student who is interested in receiving a Christ-centered, high-quality education.

In what way is St. Johns Lutheran School associated with St. John Lutheran Church?

St. Johns Lutheran School is an institution of St. John Lutheran Church affiliated with the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  The school is, at all times, under the control and support of the local congregation.  All final decisions as to policy and procedure lie in the hands of the voters’ assembly of the congregation.  For efficiency, the congregation elects a Board of Education and delegates to this body much of the authority for the day to day operation of the school.  The Board is responsible to the congregation.

I need to apply for Tuition Assistance.  How should I do this?

Information and tuition assistance applications can be requested from Mr. Meyer or from Mrs. Schultz at the school office.  All information is kept confidential.

How can I as a parent be involved at St. Johns?

Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education.  Parents are welcome to observe classes in action.  Parents are encouraged to become a member of the Parent Teacher League.  The PTL is responsible for fund raising, organizing yearly tour days, serving special meals, and helping with school-related activities.  Parents are also able to volunteer time to listen to students read, practice spelling words and math facts, and assist teachers in classroom projects.

What if my child has special needs?   Does St. Johns provide for those needs?

St. Johns does not have “special ed” teachers on staff.  For special needs, we work through the public school district.  If a child’s needs go beyond what we can provide, for the sake of the child, the family will be asked to seek a school which is able to meet the need.
